The Cedars of Lebanon

The cedars of Lebanon are magnificent trees that produce cones and can reach impressive heights of up to 120 feet. Their branches spread 30 to 50 feet from the trunk, creating a beautifully wide canopy. In biblical times, it was honored as "the king of trees."

The Cedars (continued)

The Hebrew word for cedar derives from a root that means "firm." As noted in Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon, it is celebrated for its "firmness of roots. " The adjective form of the word for cedar signifies both "firm" and "strong," reflecting the tree's deep and secure roots.

Hosea 14:5 states: "...Israel...shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon." The Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary explains the phrase "roots as Lebanon," indicating that it refers to the trees of Lebanon—especially the cedars—which establish their roots as deeply as they grow tall.

What a profound analogy! Just as the cedars of Lebanon grow tall and wide, our spiritual growth must be deeply rooted in God's truth and His way of life. We can only reach great spiritual heights when firmly anchored in His teachings.

Thus, we at Cedars of Lebanon Discipleship Church are completely committed to teaching other Christians deep biblical beliefs that their faith may grow firm, strong and deeply rooted in His Word.
